Scenario 1 - Looking to reduce the cost of purchasing new equipment?
The Situation
* An insurance company have decided to upgrade their network
* In order to reduce the cost of new networking equipment, they would like to trade in as much of the old network as possible against new purchases, without impacting operations
* The equipment was purchased for around £180,000 four years ago
* Owing to depreciation, the company has written off the value of the network
* However, some of the hardware being replaced is still current and should have a market value whilst other kit is obsolete
* There is sensitive information stored within the redundant network/equipment
The Problem
* Their existing hardware supplier is not interested in offering money for the old equipment
* There are concerns regarding the cost for the new equipment and the available levels of support
* The upgrade must not have an impact on internal IT performance
* It is close to quarter-end and the finance department is keen to realise any revenue from the redundant network within 6 weeks
* The insurance company is not sure of the value of the current equipment
The Solution
* hardware.com's online valuation tool or account managers quote for the redundant equipment within 24 hours
* The insurance company receives quote for new equipment and prices for maintenance through Smartpac Support
* Leave the existing network running while testing the new network alongside using refurbished parts where possible
* As soon as the new network is running, remove the redundant network and with it any refurbished kit that may have been provided by hardware.com for testing during the upgrade
* At this point, the insurance company receives a refund for the traded in equipment against their purchase, therefore meeting the 6 week deadline desired by the finance department
* Any data, passwords, IP address logs etc stored will be deleted and certificates issued to this effect
The Benefits
* Rapid and reliable quotes are received for both excess and new equipment - a substantially reduced price is gained by trading in old for new
* One year warranties as standard on all new or used hardware
* hardware.com's position as a 'one-stop-shop' allows it to quote for any new or refurbished hardware needed and can offer maintenance contracts through Smartpac Support
* hardware.com can offer refurbished hardware for testing and spares during the upgrade giving the insurance company peace of mind and the ability to test different structures prior to going live with the new network
* The insurance company will receive remuneration within 30 days for the purchase of the equipment, meeting quarter-end deadlines
* hardware.com's independent status, low overheads, ecommerce focus and unrivalled buying power ensure the insurance company receives new or refurbished hardware as well as approved or compatible accessories at a fraction of the cost of other suppliers
Scenario 2 - Looking to make money from written off networking assets?
The Situation
* A manufacturing company has acquired a similar business, and has spent the last 6 months merging the staff into their own office and factory floor
* The acquired and now excess network was originally purchased in 2001 at a value of £135,000
* Over the past 3 years, the value of this network has been written off entirely
* Despite having zero worth on the balance sheet, the equipment is still current and should have a market value
The Problem
* None of their existing suppliers are interested in offering money for this equipment
* The equipment was decommissioned 2 months ago and no records were kept as to the state of the equipment
* The equipment is in four locations
* All the locations need to be cleared within 3 weeks
* The company has little knowledge of today's market value of the equipment.
The Solution
* Contact hardware.com
* Receive a quote for the redundant equipment and a clear understanding of the process within 24 hours
* The equipment is boxed and collected by hardware.com
* Full inventory documented
The Benefits
* The maximum resale value is realised
* All equipment has the software removed and reset to its original factory settings

Scenario 3 - Asset Management from hardware.com
The below arrangement with one of current clients demonstrates our flexibility with regard to managing your surplus and redundant equipment:
If you have removed networking equipment from a building you are taking over, we can reduce the amount of time you spend dealing with it by offering to collect and do a full audit on the kit at no extra charge. Our engineers will test each piece in our lab and then send you the fully documented list with an offer. Upon agreement, we will forward payment to you along with any non working items or, should you prefer, we can dispose of them (in line with future/current WEEE legislation).
This worked particularly well for a current customer. They had several pallets of surplus equipment in storage and their engineers could not warrant setting aside their valuable time to sort through it. So we picked it up, tested and catalogued it for them.
From the final list there were a few items that were still useful to them which they asked us to re-box/re-label and deliver back to them. We did this for a nominal cost and even offered a one year warranty.
Their present arrangement is that when kit is taken out of use, they simply send it direct to us to do the above, i.e. bypassing storage and engineer costs.
With regards to payment, we can forward funds to you immediately or if it works better for your books, simply treat it as a trade in (as with the above client) whereupon you will have credit with us until such time as you may need replacement equipment.
